Psychological disorders, such as depression,  can affect your mental as well as physical health. It hinders efficiency and may impair the cognitive pathways and can alter your ability to think, possibly inducing a pessimistic attitude. While prescription drugs act on a short-term basis, you may also choose more natural remedies such as CBD. CBD has shown promising results in enhancing the psychological processes and limiting depressive episodes. In this blog, we will discuss how CBD may be able to reduce the symptoms of depression.

Neurotransmission

One of the most crucial aspects related to depression is the brain’s neural transmissions. Your brain tends to function based on the neurotransmitter levels and these chemical transmitters affect your cognition, pain, emotions, and sense perception. During depressive episodes, the levels of these neurotransmitters decrease, leading to symptoms like constant sorrow, hopelessness, and anhedonia. Cannabidiol (CBD) may act on the brain’s receptors, affecting the serotonergic pathways. This may increase the levels of serotonin and induce emotional stability.

Regulating The Endocannabinoid System

The Endocannabinoid system (ECS)  is a complex cell-signaling system comprised of three essential components, Endocannabinoid Receptors, Endocannabinoids, and Enzymes. The ESC helps govern the mood-related responses in the body and controls various functions of the brain including, emotion, pain, and sleep. It is important to understand that the Endocannabinoid system will function regardless of if your daily use of CBD. When you take CBD, enzymes in your body will begin to break down the cannabinoids, thus making it possible for the Endocannabinoids to bind with receptors. Once these receptors are activated, it will send signals to stimulate other parts of the body, promoting overall physical and mental health.

Reducing Stress

Stress is one of the most common triggers for psychological disorders and too much stress may lead to you experiencing symptoms of depression. Stress-induced depression can be quite daunting to deal with and affects your daily life, common symptoms can include fearfulness, excessive troublesome thoughts, un-productivity, panic attacks, and mental lethargy. In such cases, natural remedies like CBD can be of great help. Many consumers have reported feeling relaxed after taking CBD, some have even reported that taking CBD at work helped them get through even the most stressful day.

Improve Sleep Quality

Sleeplessness, and in the worst cases Insomnia, can affect your mental and physical health in more ways than one. Recent findings show that insomnia often shows up before depression, serving as a useful warning sign. A worsening of insomnia can also signal depression. Many  studies have suggested that cannabinoids could improve sleep quality, decrease sleep disturbances, and decrease sleep onset latency.

CBD and Anxiety

One of the most common disorders associated with depression is anxiety and restlessness. You are likely to develop an anxiety disorder in case you suffer from clinical depression in the long run. Symptoms of anxiety can include it induces  panic attacks, restlessness, constant worrying, and difficulty breathing. In a 2017 survey, 41% of CBD users claimed that when they switched from traditional anxiety medication to CBD, it proved them to be more effective. CBD interacts with the cannabinoid receptors in the brain that could regulate fear and anxiety-induced behaviors.
