Do CBD Gummies Have THC? Can They Get You High?

by NSM Prime on October 28, 2026

It's one of the most common questions people ask before buying CBD edibles: will a CBD gummy get me high? The short answer is no, but whether a gummy contains any THC depends on what kind of CBD is in it. Here's how to tell the difference before you buy.

Quick answer

CBD itself doesn't get you high. Gummies made with CBD isolate contain no THC. Full-spectrum gummies contain a trace amount of THC (up to 0.3% by dry weight). That isn't usually enough to feel, but it can show up on a drug test. Check the label and the lab report for the words "isolate" or "non-detectable THC."

CBD vs THC: What's the Difference?

CBD (cannabidiol) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) both come from the cannabis plant, but they act differently in the body. THC is the compound responsible for the "high" associated with marijuana. CBD is not intoxicating: it doesn't produce a high on its own, which is why it's sold legally as a hemp product.

Hemp is cannabis that naturally contains very little THC. CBD gummies are made from hemp extract, and how much THC ends up in the gummy depends on how that extract is processed.

Which CBD Gummies Contain THC?

Every CBD gummy is made with one of three types of extract:

Gummy type THC content Can it get you high? Drug-test risk
CBD isolate Non-detectable No Lowest
Broad spectrum Non-detectable (THC removed) No Low
Full spectrum Trace, up to 0.3% by dry weight Very unlikely at normal servings Possible
"CBD + THC" or hemp THC gummies Meaningful amounts of Delta-9, Delta-8 or THCP Yes High

Watch the wording. Many products sold as "CBD gummies" are really THC gummies with some CBD added. If the label lists milligrams of Delta-9, Delta-8, THCP or THCA, it's an intoxicating product, not a plain CBD gummy.

Can CBD Gummies Get You High?

A gummy made with CBD isolate cannot get you high, because there's no THC in it. A full-spectrum gummy contains so little THC that most people feel nothing intoxicating from a normal serving.

Where people get surprised is with products that are labeled loosely. "CBD gummy bears" sold at gas stations and smoke shops sometimes contain Delta-8 or Delta-9 THC, and those will produce a high. If you want zero THC, buy from a brand that publishes a third-party lab report for every product.

Some people say CBD makes them feel relaxed or calm. That's different from being high: you stay clear-headed, and your coordination and judgment aren't impaired the way they are with THC.

Will CBD Gummies Show Up on a Drug Test?

Standard workplace drug tests look for THC metabolites, not CBD. So the question is really whether your gummy contains THC.

  • CBD isolate gummies: the lowest-risk option, because the THC has been removed to non-detectable levels.
  • Full-spectrum gummies: the trace THC can build up with daily use and may trigger a positive result.
  • Mislabeled products: independent testing has repeatedly found CBD products containing more THC than their labels say. That's the main reason to check the lab report.

No CBD company can guarantee a drug test result, because tests and individual metabolism vary. If you're tested for work, choose isolate products with a current lab report and talk to your employer or doctor if you're unsure.

How to Check a CBD Gummy for THC

  1. Find the extract type. Look for "isolate," "broad spectrum" or "full spectrum" on the label or product page.
  2. Open the certificate of analysis (COA). A trustworthy brand links a third-party lab report for each product.
  3. Check the THC lines. You want "ND" (non-detectable) for Delta-9 THC and total THC.
  4. Check the other cannabinoids. Delta-8, Delta-10, THCP or HHC on the report means it's not a THC-free gummy.
  5. Match the batch. Make sure the report matches the product and batch you're buying.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do CBD gummies have THC in them?

It depends on the extract. CBD isolate and broad-spectrum gummies have non-detectable THC. Full-spectrum gummies contain trace THC, up to 0.3% by dry weight.

Can you get high from CBD gummies?

Not from CBD itself. A gummy made with CBD isolate contains no THC and won't get you high. Products that list Delta-8, Delta-9 or THCP are THC gummies and can.

Do CBD gummy bears get you high?

Pure CBD gummy bears don't. Some gummy bears sold as "CBD" also contain THC, so check the label and lab report for any THC content.

Will CBD edibles show up on a drug test?

Drug tests look for THC, not CBD. Isolate edibles carry the lowest risk, while full-spectrum edibles can cause a positive result with regular use. No brand can guarantee a result.

Are THC-free CBD gummies legal?

Hemp-derived CBD gummies with non-detectable THC are legal under federal law. New federal hemp rules starting December 11, 2026 target products with THC, not THC-free CBD. Some states have their own rules, so check Hemp Laws By State.
